  • Hi, I just found your site searching about the abandoned sugar factory near pismo beach. I am a SLO local and had never heard of it before!

I am enjoying your photography as you have captured many of my favorite areas of SLO county.

I wanted to recommend you check out Rinconada Mine inbetween Santa Margarita and Pozo. The mine itself takes a little effort to get into but there is an old furnace on the public trail that is really cool.

    • Hi Anthony: Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comments. Happy to see another local here. Yes, I am aware of the mine out near Pozo and need to check it out. Another site on my list of places to photograph.

In regards to the old sugar mill, that is located west of Santa Maria in Betteravia. Thanks again.

    • Thanks, Mimi. I thoroughly enjoyed our outing despite the weather and want to return to catch the Milky Way. Hopefully we will have clear skies next time!

  • You certainly have captured the spookiness of the location. Too bad you got caught in the rain and didn’t get what you came for.

    • Thanks, Barb. Well at least I got one good shot of the stars overhead before it started raining. Will go back for the Milky Way another time.

I really hope the County finds a way to preserve this gem of a building. The architecture is magnificent. Transitions Mental Health wants to clean it up and convert it into housing for transients, which is creating a lot of opposition in the local neighborhood. That will cost millions.
